Software Programmer

The Advanced Software Testing Automation (ASTA) micro-credential aims to equip ICT industry professionals or graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary for them to work as testing automation professionals in the ICT industry. Students will gain a deep understanding of testing automation fundamentals and develop proficiency with various contemporary testing automation tools and frameworks. Additionally, they will learn best practices for testing automation, including how to integrate it within organisational and project contexts and processes.

Entry Requirement

The micro-credential is geared for the working professional. The key entry criteria are that candidates be actively involved in the IT sector or possess at least 12 months of recent (within the last three years) professional experience in the IT sector. Candidates who do not meet these criteria will be allowed entry if they meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor or higher IT degree

Entry criteria also include English-language requirements. For international students, according to the NZQF Programme Approval and Accreditation Rules 2013 (Appendix 2), candidates must possess an IELTS Academic score of 5.5, with no band score lower than 5 from a single test taken in the previous 2 years; or the New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Academic) (Level 5) [Ref: 1884] or equivalent in accordance with NZQA’s Table for Internationally Recognised English Proficiency Outcomes for International Students.

Workshop 3: Functional testing automation using Katalon Studio

Workshop 4: Automated integrated testing using Postman

Workshop 5: Mobile testing automation using Appium

Workshop 6: Performance testing automation using JMeter

Workshop 7: Agile testing automation

Workshop 8: Defect management using Jira

Outcomes

Upon completion of the ASTA micro-credential, learners will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of testing automation fundamentals, including benefits, limitations, and tools and frameworks available.

  • Create and execute automated tests for web, mobile, and API applications using various automation tools such as Selenium, Katalon Studio, Postman, and Appium.

  • Apply best practices for testing automation, including integration with the Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipeline, maintaining long-term test maintainability, incorporating testing automation in Agile projects, and optimising tests for accurate and reliable results.

Modes of Completion for Microcredential:

Mode 1: Workshops 1-8 will be scheduled 4-weeks apart on weekends.

Mode 2: workshops will be scheduled 2-weeks apart on weekends.

Mode 3: Only offered for corporate training and tailored to their client needs.
